COVID-19 UPDATE JUNE 5
June 5, 2020
We are coming to the end of another week and I wanted to give you an update.
Compared to last Friday the COVID-19 numbers are up, which was expected due to the Holiday weekend and protests going on across the State.
Last Friday I reported there were 6,338 total cases in the State with 329 deaths. This Friday the numbers are: 6,907 total cases with 344 deaths. We are up 569 total cases this past week and 15 deaths.
I am surprised when I go out and see the great majority of people are not wearing masks and not social distancing.
Both, masks and social distancing are highly recommended by the State and by the CDC. In fact, the CDC will be updating their recommended guidelines. I will let you know when those new guidelines come out.
The State OURS PLAN (under FAQ’s) states:
When can funerals resume and how many people should be allowed?
During Phase 3, beginning June 1, there is no limit to group size provided event planners, venues, or local officials consider social distancing. Funeral service venues should follow guidance for places of worship. Funeral reception venues should follow guidance for restaurants. https://www.okcommerce.gov/covid19/open-up-recover-safely-ours-plan-faqs/
We currently have a major storm headed our way. While we should only experience heavy rains, the concern along the Gulf Coast is that people will not evacuate to shelters due to Covid-19 worries. And, on the other side, worried that the Covid-19 numbers will increase due to close quarters for those that do evacuate to those shelters. Texas has had over 68,000 cases of Coronavirus and some cities continue to rise.
I have had a few calls from individuals that are running low on some protective equipment. If you are running low and our vendor partners can’t fulfill your orders, try calling the State Department of Health. They are supposed to have a stockpile of PPE or go to https://www.okcommerce.gov/ppe-source-directory/
Surprisingly, I have now received 5 claims for unemployment for “lack of work” against the Association. It is important that you reply if you receive a claim against your firm. In fact, you should reply to the Unemployment office (within 14 days) but you need to forward the reply to the Attorney General’s Office Fraud Task Force. It is an additional step but it is additional protection for your firm.
